The 9th Annual DREAM Series: A Premier Development Camp for Elite High School Athletes
The highly anticipated 9th Annual DREAM Series is set to kick off this week at Tempe Diablo Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. This premier development camp, a collaboration between Major League Baseball (MLB) and USA Baseball, focuses on nurturing the talents of a diverse group of elite high school athletes. The event, held over Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend, will bring together current and former professional players to mentor the next generation of minority pitchers and catchers.
From January 16-19, at the Los Angeles Angels' Spring Training site, athletes will engage in a comprehensive four-day camp. This includes workouts, high-level coaching, off-field seminars, and athletic-based testing through the Prospect Development Pipeline (PDP) Performance Assessment. The assessment evaluates players across various metrics, utilizing data from PDP testing and Rapsodo technology.
Key Highlights:
- Performance Testing: Athletes will undergo a PDP Performance Assessment, measuring cognitive skills, processing speed, athletic performance, and on-field talent. Data will be shared with MLB Clubs and USA Baseball for draft preparation and national team selection.
- Personalized Reports: Participants will receive detailed player reports with evaluation data, metrics, and training tools for improvement and sustained development.
- On-Field Measurement: Rapsodo technology provides real-time access to critical performance metrics like launch angle, exit velocity, and spin rate, offering players and coaches valuable insights.
Star-Studded Staff:
The event is led by an experienced team of former big league players, coaches, and managers, collectively boasting over 170 seasons of major league experience. Notable figures include:
- Marquis Grissom: A 17-year MLB veteran and 1995 World Series champion.
- Mike Harkey: A longtime coach and 2019 World Series winner.
- Darren Oliver: A 20-year professional player.
- LaTroy Hawkins: Current bullpen coach for the Minnesota Twins, with a 20-season pro career and World Baseball Classic participation.
- Mike Scioscia: A three-time World Series champion and longtime manager of the Anaheim/Los Angeles Angels, with USA Baseball coaching experience.
International Talent and Top Commits:
The event features six players with international representation, including:
- Samir Mohammed and Taytum Reeves, who competed with the 15U National Team in the Dominican Republic in 2023.
- Dexter McCleon Jr., a 15U alum who played in a series against Australia in 2024.
- Tristin Gaines, a two-time gold medalist making his DREAM Series debut with the 2025 15U National Team.
- Paris Head and Anthony Murphy, both world champions with the 12U and 18U National Teams, respectively.
Among the 80 players, 27 have earned DI offers and committed to top-tier colleges, with a significant number (14) heading to Southeastern Conference programs, led by LSU. Texas Tech, Houston, Miami, TCU, and Vanderbilt also have committed players.
Returning Athletes:
Three active minor league and major league players, Jo Adell, Termarr Johnson, and Braden Montgomery, have participated in previous DREAM Series events and gone on to play for USA Baseball national teams. Johnson, a three-time USA Baseball alum, recently won a bronze medal with Team USA at the 2024 Premier12 tournament, managed by Mike Scioscia. Montgomery, the Chicago White Sox's top prospect, played for the Collegiate National Team in 2023.
