Get ready for an exciting adventure as Adventureland in Farmingdale gears up for its grand reopening on March 20th! With a 64-year-old legacy, this beloved amusement park is set to unveil a whole new world of thrills and fun for the 2026 season. But here's where it gets controversial... some old favorites have made way for these new attractions.
The Big Reveal: Adventureland's Multiphase Redevelopment Plan
As part of a $10 million park redevelopment plan, Adventureland has been undergoing some major transformations. This ambitious project, which began in 2024, aims to complete all five phases by 2028, or even sooner, according to park officials.
Legacy Corner: A New Park Section
During its hiatus since late October, Adventureland has been hard at work, making room for three new rides, two new games, and more. The old log flume ride, which occupied a significant amount of space, has been removed, and its location has been transformed into what is now known as Legacy Corner.
Saying Goodbye to Old Favorites
The beloved Adventure Falls log flume ride, which closed at the end of 2024, and the thrilling Moon Chaser ride have both been taken down. The Moon Chaser, which made its debut in 2024, was the first new ride added after the redevelopment announcement. Its short lifespan reflects the evolving nature of the development plans, as Jeanine Pacella, the manager, explains: "Moon Chaser was never intended to be a long-term fixture; it was always meant to be a temporary ride."
The removal of these rides opened up an impressive 45,000 square feet of space for two new attractions.
Phase 1: Completed in 2024
- Adult pirate ship and log flume removed
- New Legacy Corner opened with Moon Chaser, a galaxy-themed thrill ride
- Wellness center rebranded
Phases 2 and 3: In Progress for 2025-26
- Wave Twister, a family ride moving along a wavelike track, is set to debut
- Two new games: Wave Blaster and Jungle Run
- New custom prize collection
- Legacy Bites concession stand
- Two additional new rides expected
Phases 4 and 5: Planned for 2027-28
Details for these phases will be revealed at a later date.
Wave Twister: A Swiss-Engineered Thrill
Despite its name, Wave Twister is a non-water-based ride, accommodating 12 people per circular car that spins as it moves side to side. "Wave Twister looks like a boomerang and runs on a roller coaster track. It gives you the sensation of riding a wave," Pacella explains. "There's a thrill factor, but it won't be overly scary so that younger kids can enjoy it too."
Wave Twister won't be ready for the opening weekend, but Pacella assures us it should be operational this spring. The next ride expected is The Ram, a fresh take on the classic pirate ship by Huss Park Attractions of Germany.
"We used to have a pirate ship, and people loved it. It was the oldest ride in the park, and maintaining it became challenging. It was a fan favorite, so we're bringing it back with a new theme," Pacella adds.
The new theme is inspired by SUNY Farmingdale's sports teams, The Rams, and Pacella explains the connection: "We're essentially neighbors, so it made sense to collaborate. The Ram theme will be integrated into the ship, retaining the pirate aesthetic."
The pirate ship will appeal to a wider range of riders compared to Moon Chaser, as its height requirement is lower. "It was a more universally accessible ride," Pacella says. "We felt the timing was right to bring it back."
New Midway Games: Wave Blaster and Jungle Run
Two new midway games are coming to Legacy Corner. Wave Blaster challenges players to shoot water into targets as they light up, while Jungle Run involves rolling a ball into holes to move an animal across the board, with the winner being the first to reach the other side.
Legacy Bites: A New Food Stand
Legacy Bites, a new food stand, will offer a variety of specialty foods in snack form, including jumbo pretzels, churros, chicken tenders with fries, and more.
A New Carousel: A Venetian-Inspired Delight
The park's traditional carousel, located near the birthday party entrance, is being replaced this season by a new double-decker carousel created by Bertazzon of Italy. This updated carousel will be handicap accessible and able to accommodate up to 60 people.
"It will retain the Venetian aesthetic but with a modern twist," Pacella says. "In addition to the horses, we're planning to add a variety of animals to ride, such as a tiger, lion, zebra, giraffe, and panda."
Adventureland's Operating Hours and Capacity
Adventureland typically closes after the last weekend in October and reopens towards the end of March the following year. The park boasts 27 rides, 13 midway games, and a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating for over 300 guests. During the spring and fall school terms, Adventureland is open on weekends and holidays, while in the summer, it's open seven days a week.
"At Adventureland, we strive to enhance our customers' experience," Pacella says. "We're thrilled about this year and can't wait to welcome our guests for a fantastic season."
